What Does your Ringtone Say About You?

May 21st, 2012 7 comments

Are you funny, entertaining, stylish or cool? Better be careful. Someone might be able to figure this out just by listening to your ringtone. There are many different types of ringtones to choose from and each says something different about you. Some ringtones are simply a sound effect, or a monophonic melody made of similar tones. Others are polyphonic melodies made from a combination of instruments. Still others are actual songs in the form of MP3 music. What ringtone fits your personality best? Some Web sites offer insights into this with ringtone personality quizzes. One asks such things as what your favorite style of music is, how fast you drive, how many CD’s you have at home, how often you go to live music shows, what your favorite color is and what your favorite pet is. It then assesses your personal style and comes up with recommendations of ringtones especially for you. (I was sophisticated and refined.) Of course, you may be the type who instinctively knows where to turn for your ringtones without such guidance. More power to you!

How did ringtones become such a prominent social force? According to the Web site the history-of.net, ringtones are European in origin with the first of these telephonic signatures sold in Finland in 2001. At the time, Finnish teenagers were heavily into text messaging and the Finns were trying to further develop their cellular technology. According to the history-of.net Web site, it was Matti Paananen, co-founder and chief technology officer at Helsinki-based Add2Phone, who invented the business of selling custom ring tones. As soon as American companies got wind of it, they too wanted to take advantage of the market. After all, there were 137 million Americans who spent around $70 billion a year on mobile telecommunications services. The American companies conducted market research that revealed that teenage and college girlsall who loved to talk on the phonewere the target customers. According to the history-of Web site, Boost Mobile, a prepaid cellular company majority-owned by Nextel, was the first to unveil a phone targeted at teenage girls who liked to surf the net and chat on their phones for lengthy periods. Their phones came with nearly 500 ring tones, and featured pop-music songs such as “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, “Like a Virgin”, “Funky Town”, “California Dreamin'”, and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” Sounds like the old transistor radios we used to hear around the beach.
As phones become fancier and even more technologically advanced, even more people will be able to take advantage of ever-evolving ring tone options. Analyst Dana Thorat at IDC, a technology research firm, estimates that 9.9 million people downloaded a ring tone in 2003, up from 4.8 million in 2002. IDC predicts that number will grow to 54.3 million by the end of 2007. Richard Jesty, an analyst at The Arc Group, a London-based telecommunications consulting firm, says, “Over time, the novelty will wear off, but not yet.” He expects that sales will remain strong through 2008, eventually hitting $5.2 billion worldwide.
So what ringtone will you choose to make your very own personal statement? Keep in mind that whatever one you select will say a lot about you.

Brighten Up A Dull Day With A Fun Ringtone

May 18th, 2012 No comments

If there is one thing that the world has far too much of, it would be the curse of the mundane. That is, far too much that exists in the world is fairly dull, bland and on the wrong side of the play it safe debate. Part of the reason for this is while standing out in a crowd is something people seemingly enjoy, the reality is that there are a number of conventions afoot in the world that press people to take the safe root and not try to stand out in the crowd too much.

Oh well, more is the pity, as going through life without ever making much of a mark in the world is similar to living in a comatose state. Now, the people who came up with the idea of flashy and snazzy ringtones were definitely not the folks who seemed to revel in playing it safe or maintaining a dull composure!

Although ringtones have become wildly popular in recent years, there are still a few misconceptions floating about as to the value of having music installed on a person’s phone. Those misconceptions assume that people select their music on a random basis or that a certain phone comes with certain ringtone.

In other words, the misconception centers around the fact that people believe the person who owns the cellphone did not play a direct role in selecting the specific ringtone for the phone. This assumption is based out of simply not being familiar with how ringtones are installed and, more importantly, why someone chooses to install them.

Ringtones can provide a brief glimpse into the personality of the individual who owns the cell phone. The tone and style of the ringtone can lend some insight into the likes dislikes and quirks of the individual who chose the ringtones.

For example, a funny ringtone can provide the information that the person who likes the ringtone is a humorous, lighthearted person who doesn’t necessarily take the world all that serious. Quite honestly, that is quite an intriguing statement for a person to make so wholeheartedly embracing such whimsical ringtones is a sure sign of a fun person!

There does come the question regarding what people may think if a person’s ringtone is too whimsical. Actually, if the ringtones that blare are ominous, then maybe it might be wise to consider what people will think. Now, if the ringtones are fun, then people will probably think the person is fun so what would be the problem with that? Life is short, enjoy it and broadcast your joy to the whole, wide world with fun ringtones on your cell.

Free Ringtones – Where Would We be Without Them?

May 10th, 2012 9 comments

OK hands up all those who remember the Crazy Frog?

Yes come on, don’t be shy, we all know you know? Remember the funny little character that bounced about a lot with a funny grin that had more than its fair share of fixed rigor mortis to it.

Yes that’s the one, the one that secretly we all wanted to take a baseball bat to at the time. Well it would appear that it was merely a symptom of out times and that these are here to stay.

With the massive explosion of mobile communications, more telephones than you can wave a stick at – wow that dates me they are no longer referred to as “Mobile Telephones”, we are now dealing with “Portable Personal Communication Centres”. Doesn’t matter what it is it still gives you a headache if you press it too close to the ear and the police get extremely upset if you cruise by waving at them at speed with one hand holding a mobile!

Hang on a minute, if one hand is holding the phone and the other hand is waving at them then no wonder they get upset but I digress, things have moved on massively since they were first introduced to us mere mortal sin the early 80’s. Gone are the days when the sounds they generated were just a monophonic “beep” now you can have the entire Berlin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra playing the compete works of Wagner (if that is your bent) at volume whilst you manfully struggle to pick the phone up from under your chair at meetings!

Life is such fun isn’t it as you wrestle with this little thing belting out “Ride of the Valkyrie” at top volume whilst the nurse angrily calls for security and ejects you from the Hospital waiting room. I jest as things are slightly different now and now phones (or Portable Personal…..forget it you know what I mean) are seen as slightly less life threatening in terms of wavelength etc and we can now use them in situations that were once deemed as life threatening. I still wouldn’t suggest taking one into a High Dependency Unit at a Hospital but at least you can use them in the car park without fear of retribution.

Anyway back to the initial point about technology moving on. No longer do we just deal with monophonic ring tones, now we have download heaven, a vast array of sites where the world of MIDI ring tones, MP3 ring tones, Polyphonic, WAV, Real and True tones are all available. Along with the fact that everything is now much more portable and disposable, ring tones have become much more widely available in terms of structure and content.

I am sure that John Lennon, Elvis and all of our departed modern day icons feel at rest now that their musical output has graduated to the world of the ring tone and they feel well and truly blessed.

Ringtones – What are the Differences Between Mp3, Mono and Poly?

February 14th, 2012 5 comments

The mobile market has been booming these past few years. All over the world, millions of people have embraced the mobile world into their life. Most of them are into it so much that they can not imagine going out of the house without their cell phones with them. Part of the fun of having a cell phone today is that you can upload all sorts of interesting mobile ringtones. You can use these cell phone ringtones for sounding when you have an inbound call, to let you know when you have an audio message, and also when you receive an instant message as well.

Many inexperienced Ringtone users may be overwhelmed by the technical jargon they encounter when trying to purchase or use a new Ringtone. Terms such as monophonic and polyphonic ringtones, MP3 ringtones or baud rate and the like are enough to shake many non-technophiles. But in general it’s not that hard and the different Ringtones can be broken down to three different kinds that are in operation now:

1. Polyphonic ring tones make use of multiple tones that are played simultaneously with the instrumental sounds created by guitars, drums, violins, pianos, cymbals and more. This creates a harmonious sound that you will never hear from a monotone. Polyphonic ringtones are able to much more accurately reproduce complex sounds than previous technologies, and, for this reason, phones that can handle polyphonic ringtones are much more popular thantheir monophonic rivals.

2. Real Music ringtones or MP3 Ringtones, are ringtones that came from “real” or actual songs. They use original pieces of music along with lyrics, exactly as the original recording. The format is usually MP3, WAV, WMA, etc. This feature and support for real music ringtones is being built into most new models of almost all mobile phone manufacturers. Real Music Ringtones are also called true tones, real tones, voice tones, full music or MP3 ringtones.

3. Monophonic is the simplest of ringtone technology that uses a MIDI format. This one note wonder changed ringtones and no more would you hear simple chirps and chimes, but rather, you could play a popular song. A single note playing a song resembles a monophonic ringtone sound. You can recognize your favorite song, but it sounds a little off, because there is not that much control with a single tone format.

Ringtones are available in various forms. One of the reasons why personalized ringtones are enjoying such an immense popularity all over the world is because of the ability to actually bring your personality to your phone. With personalized ringtones you can immediately show to other people what kind of person you are the moment they hear your ringtone. If you are the goofy type of person then you’d have one of those funny songs, a hilarious joke or a funny sound effect as your ring tone. If you are the romantic type then love songs would usually be your ringtone. The adventurous people may select rock or techno music as their ringtones. Of course, anime fans will definitely get anime theme songs as their ringtones. There are endless possibilities on how to customize your cell phone. You can download ringtones, compose them or even buy them on various websites. No matter what your personal taste could be, there is definitely already a ringtone for it.

Information Regarding Funny Sounds

Kazoos are one of the easiest instruments to play; even the design is fairly simple. It creates a buzzing sound when a person hums into it. There is nothing on this instrument that will help to change the pitch or the sound; this is done by the person humming into it. As the person changes their humming, the sound through the kazoo will be altered as well. Some people can find it difficult to play this instrument properly because they take the instruction to hum too literally. To get the best sound out of the kazoo, the person has to more or less speak into the instrument, which makes a harder vocalization and makes a stronger sound that will work through the kazoo.

This simple little instrument that is a popular toy for many young children has a long history. Many people are unaware of the kazoo’s origins. Instruments similar to the kazoo originated from Africa, where it was used for hundreds of years for many different purposes. Not only were the instruments used in many rituals and ceremonies, they were also used when hunting. Different ones would mask the sound of someone’s voice and some would have the ability to imitate different animals who they were trying to hunt.
