what do you think of this tiny extract from my second chapter?
A distant ringing sound awoke me from my deep sleep. It took me a few seconds to realise where the noise was coming from. I climbed out of bed grabbing hold of my wall for support, and caught sight of my reflection in the mirror. My hair was sticking up at funny angles, and resembled a bird’s nest, and last night’s make up was plastered all round my face. Attractive… not!
I fumbled around in the pile of last night’s clothes that were scattered across the floor and found what I was looking for; my handbag. The source of the ringing, which happened to be my blackberry, was now very loud, and penetrated through my brain at every ring. Making a mental note to myself to remember to turn the damn thing on silent before I go to bed, I glanced at the caller ID and hit the green button.
“Hello?” My voice sounded strained, almost like a strangled cat.
“Morning babe, wow you sound rough! Thanks for last night, did you get home ok?” I hold the phone away from my ear wincing. Roxy’s the lucky one; she never gets hangovers and always sounds as fresh as a daisy the morning after a wild night out.
“Yeah, I got a taxi. How about you?” Holding the phone to my ear with my shoulder, I stumble into the kitchen and pour myself a glass of water.
“I got home ok too, not sure how, but I must of done. Woke up in my bed this morning, and ohmygod… guess who was in bed with me!?”
“Erm I don’t know. Someone from the club? Oh wait, that guy? What’s his name? The one who brought us that drink?” I’m not shocked, it’s pretty normal for Roxy to wake up with someone in her bed. I on the other hand am a good girl, and have only ever woken up once with a stranger in my bed.
“Yeah that’s the one. Surprised you remember. You were hammered, well so was I. I’ve had no sleep would you believe… the cheeky bastard kept me up all night!”
Roxy is the lucky one; she gets action pretty much every weekend. It’s been 6 months, 2 weeks and 4 days for me. Not that I’m counting. Wow that has gone quick, 6 months of being single pringle. Least when you’re single no one can cheat on you I suppose.
    “Grace? Are you still there?”
“Yeah I’m here. Sorry I was daydreaming about someone taking me home for the night. Roxy, can I ask you something?”
    “Sure, what’s up?”
“How can I get guys to start noticing me?” I feel so stupid for asking, but Roxy will understand. That’s what best friends are for.
“They do notice you, you plonker. Lewis brought you a drink last night didn’t he? Guys buy you a drink most weekends babe.” Roxy giggles. I know she’s not taking the piss, it’s that giggle she does when she thinks I’m being silly.
“I didn’t mean like that. I meant like the way guys notice you. As in they think you’re attractive.”
“Most men only want one thing Grace, and I’m the silly one for giving it to them. You’re the sensible one, but that’s a good thing. Don’t worry babe, you’ll find your Mr Right.”
“I suppose your right. Anyway I’ve got to go and clean the flat. Ill speak to you soon, bye.”
“Ha yeah I’ve got to do the same, stupid housework. Just remember, I’m always here for you no matter what. Bye, talk soon.”
I take my mobile away from my ear and press the red button. I’m such a silly billy sometimes. I know Roxy is right. She always is. Someday my Mr Right will come, and we will have lots of romantic meals, lush holidays, a great big posh mansion, a big white wedding, and lots of kids. Opps note to self, don’t get too carried away. I chuckle to myself, flick the radio on, hunt down my hot pink rubber gloves, and attack the gigantic mound of washing up.
its meant to be in paragraphs… but not come up on here

Nice! Seriously, great job. Well, some of your spelling and punctuation was a little off, but it was actually really interesting. I can already tell that the story is going to end up being a romance /novel/, but a word to the wise: don’t get carried away. What I mean is, don’t make Mr. Right…well, Mr. Right! He can’t be rich and handsome and nice and funny and handsome and smart and handsome all at once now, can he? …And did I mention handsome? Make sure he has flaws. Maybe he’s quick-tempered, or has a (slight) drinking problem, or is too hyper or shy or intimidating.

Also, make sure he doesn’t look too much like a sex god. ;D

    Good luck, and happy writing~!
