Movie Trailers are Just as Important as the Actual Movie

The year 2008 has come to an end and most movie channels are busy with their yearend content. Countdowns of the best and worst movies of 2008, top rated stars of 2008 and so on. Interestingly, many sites have a list of the best movie trailers of 2008. Considering that movie trailers are the ones that provide the first glimpse of how the movie would be, it’s only fitting that there should be a rating on movie trailers.

To lure the audience to the theatres, a movie trailer is one of the most effective ways apart from other promotional activities like wallpapers, cell phone ringtones, interviews of cast and crew members. Factors like positive reviews and even the cast of the movie come in much later. Movie trailers need to have quick cuts, slick editing, interesting narration and fast paced music, for the challenge is to give a glimpse of the 120 minute long movie in just 2 minutes.

A huge advantage with a movie trailer is that it can be used to promote movies through television as well as on the internet, unlike other forms of movie promotions. With a huge population of movie goers constantly on the internet, movie makers ensure that high resolution videos of the movie trailers make it to the internet almost as simultaneously as their release on television.

Sometimes, special scenes including the stars of the movie are shot only to be used in a trailer to promote the movie and are never a part of the actual movie. The next big thing to look out for is mobile movie trailers. Though it has not taken off in a big way, considering the increasing popularity of iPhones and other smart phones, mobile movie trailers may soon prove to be a big hit.

How can I know if the movie is good or not ?
In user reviews, and critics reviews, there are always grade A and Grade F. I don’t know if it is good or not. All people have different taste. There are many popular movies that I don’t like. There are some movies that looks good, but actually bad. There were good trailer but the actual movies were bad.

I watch the movie for half an hour if I like the movie, if I don’t like it, I will skim it, or I just stop watching the movie. But sometimes, there were boring movies, but the ending was great.

Your best option is to rely on those that have similar tastes in movies. Your typical movie critic will like crap from time to time. Watching a trailer is a good idea, but they do not give you enough to go on in most instances. Many times a great director and a good cast are important, but they produce stinkers also. If you can relate to the storyline, if it is a genre that you like, then you have a better chance of liking it, but you still have to see it yourself. Trust no one!

The only way you can know if you like a movie, or not, is to watch it. Everyone is different and has different likes and dislikes about movies. You can ask a friend that you trust, but the only way to really know is to watch the movie, yourself.
